Problem Solving in Your Garden

Parked Cars vs. House:

I wanted to create a buffer between the cars in the parking lot and the house. I did not want vehicles to be so close to the house. I wanted the parking lot and its contents to not be visible from inside the house. I also wanted to gently guide the cars so they would park in a particular way.

This was all accomplished quite simply by building low planting beds directly off the front porch.  Approximately 20′ deep, the cars were kept away from the house. The depth and height of the raised planting bed allowed for a substantial planting screen with enough interest to de-emphasize the presence of the cars and the parking lot.  The orientation of these raised planting beds  guided guests to park their cars in a way that is less imposing. A generous 8’ wide stepping stone pathway was built to guide guests to the front door.
