Challenge: Steep hillside with water seeping year round in certain areas poses a difficult maintenance issue. Solution: There are alternatives to cotoneaster, juniper and ivy! Create pathways to allow for access on slope. Install select varieties of grasses, perennials and shrubs that can live in either soggy wet or bone dry poor soil. Mulch slope to reduce weed growth, build soil quality. Regular monthly maintenance for the first several years will be critical if this is to become a low maintenance planting over time.
